SA Govt Rent Relief Grants
SA Premier Steven Marshall announced a plan to provide support to landlords and tenants who are suffering signficant financial hardship as a result of COVID-19.
So how does it all work?
The tenant must apply for the Grant via the Department of Human Services.
To be eligible the tenant must;
- Be receiving jobseeker or jobkeeper payment
- Have less than $5,000 in savings
- Pay more than 30% of their income on rent
- Revised rental terms have been agreed during COVID-19
Where the tenant meets this criteria AND revised rental terms have been agreed with the landlord that deliver rent relief to the tenant of $1000 the grant is payable to the landlord or managing agent. The grant will be adjusted to reflect the value of the rent relief provided to an eligible tenant where it is less than $1000.
Example: the landlord and tenant agree to reduce the rent during COVID by $40pw for 5 months (approx 20 weeks) = $800. If the tenant is eligible, then $800 is payable to the landlord.
Trove encourage all tenants who meet the above criteria and have a revised rental agreement to please apply. We will provide further details once applications are open.
If you are a Trove tenant and meet the above criteria, however have not notified us you are experiencing significant financial hardship, please notify us by completing our online application form here.
