Situated in the City of Onkaparinga council area, Aberfoyle Park is quite a modern, hilly suburb situated about 20km south of Adelaide's CBD. It is surrounded by Chandlers Hill, Flagstaff Hill, Coromandel Valley, Craigburn Farm, Happy Valley, O'Halloran Hill and Cherry Gardens.

Origin of Suburb Name

German migrant Christian Sauerbier owned land near Happy Valley after arriving in SA in 1845, says historian Geoffrey H. Manning.  His son, John Chris Sauerbier, changed his name to Aberfoyle after an area in Perthshire, Scotland, during World War One.  The suburb was laid out in 1924 by James Henry Browne.

Reserves and walking trails complete this suburb! Thalassa Park, bordering Windebanks Road, is one of the largest, offering lawns and barbecue areas, a playground and walking trails.

There are also green spaces like Parkway Reserve, Peppermint Grove Park and Simpson Reserve offering playground, tennis court, barbecue areas and basketball & netball courts.

The Hub shopping precinct offers supermarkets, a library, a newsagency, a high school and eateries & cafes.

Happy Valley Sports Park, Tennis Club and BMX Club facilities are also central. The suburb is also home to its share of retirement villages, while Flagstaff Hill Golf Course and Happy Valley Reservoir sit close to its eastern border.
